Operations Manager (VIC)

The role

The Operations Manager (VIC) will work with the Operations Manager in Adelaide to maintain to increase the efficiency and profitability of the Land & Aerospace business unit.

The successful incumbent will be directly responsible to the Head of Land & Aerospace for local leadership in the Hawthorn office and delivery of assigned major contract outcomes. You will have supervisory responsibility of project managers to deliver individual project outcomes in a coordinated, programmatic manner. Delivery to budget and customer schedule is critical while still effectively prioritising conflicting project priorities.

As a member of the Land & Aerospace leadership team, you will have significant involvement in managing resources, finances, ICT and facilities and will also be considered for support to the regional manager in VIC, or indeed to conduct that role. you will also support strategy development and capture activities and must be prepared to deputise for the Head of Land & Aerospace during absence.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Create an environment that enables successful project delivery, sales support and resolves conflicts/competing priorities within the business unit and with other business units
  • Develop and implement resourcing plans to deliver business unit outcomes, including consolidation of business unit forecasting and workforce planning
  • Assess and support capture for follow-on business to achieve order intake targets for the program
  • Work with the Head of Land & Aerospace and the Strategy & Capture Manager to identify, develop, report on and win new business opportunities
  • Support bids
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain good customer, partner and other relevant stakeholders relationships

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9 day fortnight) will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering or Business discipline.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in systems oriented projects (with at least 5 years in management / supervisory roles)
  • Practical experience and theoretical understanding of project management fundamentals
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interrelationship skills with ability to achieve effective outcomes in a multi-disciplined, multi-party environment
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated management and leadership/team building skills, with a track record of mentoring emerging leaders


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
